Square Enix released an idol simulation smartphone game called Idol Fantasy last July that featured a mix of a “magical heart-throbbing fantasy” as an “idol training game,” and even some art by Tetsuya Nomura, but it’ll be shutting down on May 9, the company announced.

After consideration, Square Enix decided that it would be too difficult to continue providing a satisfactory experience for its players and have decided to end its service. The company apologizes for the inconvenience and thanks all of its fans for the support.

While Idol Fantasy is shutting down, Square Enix plans on releasing a “Memorial Version” of Idol Fantasy after its termination that will allow players to check out some parts of the game. The Memorial Version will carryover only the player’s name and birthday, but no other gameplay data. More information on that will be shared on a later date.

Idol Fantasy is available in Japan for iOS and Android. It launched on July 18, 2018.
