Square Enix’s Tokyo Studio Also Working On An Action Game

There’s another planner position open at Square Enix and this one is for an in-development "action game". Whoever gets hired will work in their Shinjuku office as a level designer.

Applicants should have experience making action games, but Square Enix’s description of an "action" game is quite broad. The 3rd Birthday is a cinematic action RPG and Dissidia 012[duodecim]: Final Fantasy’s genre is dramatic progressive action. This job probably is not for The 3rd Birthday or Lord of Arcana. Even though Square Enix calls those action games, both titles are too far along in development for a level designer.

Hmm… I wonder if this is for an existing franchise or something brand new. Since the job listing doesn’t have RPG at the end, I suppose we can rule out RPGs and action RPGs. The last job post we dug up specifically mentioned an action RPG.
