People have easy access to the Star Tropics series in North America again. Star Tropics and Zoda’s Revenge: Star Tropics II have both been added to the Nintendo Wii U Virtual Console in North America. (They’re already immediately available in Europe and Australia.)

Both Star Tropics and Zoda’s Revenge: Star Tropics II are unique in that Nintendo created and released them only in western locals. They were created for North America and Europe, not Japan, with the sequel only originally appearing in North America and being the last game Nintendo developed only for the original NES.

Star Tropics and Zoda’s Revenge: Star Tropics II both star Mike, a young man who goes to visit Dr. Steven Jones, his archaeologist uncle. In the original game, he sets out in search of his kidnapped uncle, learning more about each location, then heading off to stop some sort of problem and fight enemies with weapons like a yo-yo. In the sequel, Princess Mica, a woman Mike rescued in the first game, asks for his help. He ends up traveling through time to different locations, saving more people and collecting Tetrads and getting closer to defeating Zoda.

The Nintendo Wii U versions of Star Tropics and Zoda’s Revenge: Star Tropics II are available for $4.99 each.
