Plug and play TV games are more interesting than a joystick with a built in emulator. Companies are testing out new gimmicks like mixing a power pad, hand controllers and 16-bit graphics. While the Amazing Spider-Man TV game is unlikely to blow anyone’s mind expecting HD visuals there are some interesting game design concepts here. You physically move on the mat to make Spider-Man move and players mimic Spider-Man’s hand movements to shoot web.
Is this the future of gaming? Probably not, it’s interesting to see what other controllers companies can come up with. Before the Wii came out Radica experimented with motion controlled sports games and Square-Enix released Kenshin Dragon Quest, a slime slashing game where players held a sword in their hands.
