In between the launch of Final Fantasy XIII and Dragon Quest Wii as a launch title there was a lot of information given off about future Square-Enix projects. Read about the fate of Crystal Chronicles, Vincent’s jump to mobile gaming and an updated release schedule in this article.
Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII Lost Episode
Three years after Meteorfall, the world is threatened by Deepground, a mysterious army of bloodthirsty warriors. It’s not long before Vincent Valentine learns that this organization is searching for him to get their hands on the Protomateria. He decides to investigate Shinra Manor in an effort to uncover his forgotten pastand the mystery behind the Protomateria. Vincent leaves for Nibelheim in a WRO chopper and heads for the horizon…with Deepground in swift pursuit. This is coming out in the summer along with Dirge of Cerberus PS2 is a mobile version of the game. We saw a quick trailer of the game in action and it keeps the same gameplay style of the PS2 game. As a “gun RPG” Vincent can draw his gun and the screen switches into an over the shoulder camera with Vincent in action. What’s exciting about this game is that it has an online versus battle function.
Dragon Quest Wii
The saga continues as a launch title for Nintendo’s Wii console. No gameplay footage of Dragon Quest Swords: Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors was shown. We just saw a quick clip of a guy holding the remote and swinging it as a sword to battle a cartoon golem. We’re guessing this is going to be a lot like Kenshin Dragon Quest. Also Square-Enix is pleased with the performance of Dragon Quest in North America. DQ VIII: Journey of the Cursed King sold 900,000 copies since its November release.
The fate of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles
While the Gamecube game had its problems with the amount of hardware it took to experience the game’s multiplayer vision Square-Enix went back to the drawing board for the new Crystal Chronicles games. First off is Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Crystal Bearers (code name) for the Nintendo DS. We saw a quick trailer of this game in action. It has full 3D graphics and brings in all of the races from the Gamecube title. It is the “story of the red moon that still shone in the night sky”. The DS game will support online multiplayer action, but it was not mentioned if it will use Nintendo’s WiFi service or not. Then Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates (code name) for the Wii started off with the traditional Final Fantasy prelude music. We saw a clip of airships that look like steamboats flying around and then we caught a glimpse of the game in action. Both of these games are still in development and we’re interested in seeing what becomes of them in the next few months.
