Part of Sunsoft’s brand revival involved acquiring Nihon Telenet’s library of games with assistance from Gaijinworks. “After Telenet closed, I was sure there was a way to keep their great ideas and characters alive, and I’m extremely happy that Sunsoft has stepped into that role,” Gaijinworks President, Vic Ireland, remarked.“There are numerous fantastic products to work with in this acquisition, and there is nothing but amazing possibilities for the Telenet IP as a whole.”

Gaijinworks and Sunsoft plan to bring the original games, some of which were localized by Working Designs, to Virtual Console on the Wii and “other platforms.” In addition to seeing Cosmic Fantasy 2 again, gears are in motion to create new games and remakes based on Telenet’s past works.

No specific titles were announced, but Ireland is keen on Cosmic Fantasy. “Cosmic Fantasy has a special place in it since we were only able to do two [in the series],” Ireland said when we asked him about revisiting the series. “I really like 1, 3, 4A, and 4B and were only able to do one of those chapters. To be able to revisit that would be fantastic, but the rights are really a problem.”

The rights aren’t a problem anymore.

Special thanks and a round of applause to Denpa no Sekai for the tip. Thanks!!
