Have you heard of Super Chain Crusher Horizon before? We hadn’t until a Siliconera reader got in touch to let us know about it. At 3200 x 800 pixels it’s one of the biggest shmups ever created. Yep, ultra widescreen – it’s recommended that you play it with two monitors if possible, but it should be fine on just one too.
Super Chain Crusher Horizon is the work of Japanese studio Mindware Co, a studio that has been around since 1995, and contributed work to Streets of Rage 2 on the Genesis, as well as various other PC and console titles, including WiiWare’s Maboshi’s Arcade. This latest title of the studio’s was originally released back in 2013 for Windows, but was Greenlit and released more recently on Steam, in September 2014, in fact.
That widescreen format isn’t just a gimmick, by the way. The game is all about chaining together explosive combos to reach high scores. It’s a risk-reward type of game, as you’re encouraged to hold back, letting enemy ships pile up across the screen, before charging up a shot to blow them all up in huge displays.
It’s not just for high scores either, as chaining together huge explosions is the only way to effectively take on the game’s bigger bosses. It’s a neat idea. It’s a shame more people don’t know about Super Chain Crusher Horizon, hence, we’re spreading the word.
