Nintendo announced in a financial report Wii Party reached a million units in Japan and Super Mario Galaxy 2 broke 5.1 million in worldwide sales. A solid number for Mario, but Pokémon: Black & White is catching up. Nintendo’s top selling DS game sold 4.07 million units in Japan alone.
While Pokémon was off to a strong start, Nintendo DSi and DSi XL sales are way down. Between April to September 2010, Nintendo sold 6.69 million Nintendo DSi handhelds compared to 11.70 million during the same period last year. Nintendo DS software sales fell too from 54.84 million to 71.15 million.
Wii sales are down slightly from 5.75 last year to 4.97.
Nintendo expects hardware sales to pick up when the Nintendo 3DS launches. The company forecasts 4 million handhelds and 15 million units of software worldwide before March 31, 2011. The Nintendo 3DS comes out on February 26 in Japan. A release date has not been announced for North America.
