Nintendo announced that in the first five days since its launch, the recently released Super Mario Odyssey sold 1.1 million units in the US, making it the fastest-selling Mario game in the States after surpassing the previous record-holder, New Super Mario Bros. on the Wii.
Here’s a quote from Nintendo of America President and COO, Reggie Fils-Aime:
“The public continues to respond positively to Mario’s latest adventure. We’re also seeing sales momentum for Nintendo Switch thanks to an ever-growing catalog of games from large publishers and indie developers.”
Now that the game has sold over a million in the US, Nintendo expects more to come as players spread the word of the new Mario title that currently sits with a review average of 97 over at Metacritic.
With the holidays approaching, Nintendo has increased supplies of the Nintendo Switch console to meet the upcoming demand. Through the end of October, the total number of Nintendo Switch systems sold in the United States is at over 2.6 million.
Super Mario Odyssey released on October 27, 2017 for the Nintendo Switch.
