Super Robot Wars 30th Anniversary Event - Super Gratitude Festival of Steel 2021

Super Robot Wars 30th Anniversary Online Event Will Happen This July

Bandai Namco will hold a special online event to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Super Robot Wars on July 11, 2021. The company made the reveal at a live stream dedicated to the mobile game Super Robot Wars DD on April 23, 2021.

Titled “Hagane no Chou Kansha-sai 2021” (Super Gratitude Festival of Steel 2021) in Japanese, the event will have a full-blown celebration for the series’ major anniversary milestone. More details on the event’s content, including guest stars, will be announced at a later date.

Bandai Namco also published a teaser trailer for the event at the Japanese official Super Robot Wars Twitter account. The trailer features a sneak peek of “Concerto of SRW,” a new song specifically made by JAM Project to mark the series’ 30th anniversary.

The first Super Robot Wars title was released for Game Boy in Japan in April 1991. The series has been widely known for featuring a crossover of various Japanese robot anime shows in strategy RPG style. The only games released in the West to date are the two Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation titles for Game Boy Advance in 2006.

In recent years, Bandai Namco made a workaround to the complex anime licensing issues by releasing official English versions in Southeast Asia. Other than SRW OG: Moon Dwellers, three crossover titles — VX, and T — also received this treatment. All four titles are immediately available on PlayStation 4, while the three crossover titles also appeared on Nintendo Switch. Super Robot Wars V and X are also available on PC via Steam, but they are region locked to Asia.

As of this writing, the franchise also has an active mobile game titled Super Robot Wars DD. Another mobile game, Super Robot Wars X-Omega, was shut down in March 2021 after running for over 5 years. Today’s DD live stream revealed that Hiroaki Oochi, the former producer of X-Omega, has become the new producer of SRW DD. Bandai will also release a Cybaster HG plamodel in June 2021 to mark the series’ anniversary.
