EVO 2020 tournament organizer Joey Cuellar shared the early registration leaderboard for February, led by Super Smash Bros Ultimate.
Below are the current top-eight titles in EVO 2020’s registration count:
- Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
- Tekken 7
- Street Fighter V: Champion Edition
- Granblue Fantasy Versus
- SoulCalibur VI
- Dragon Ball FighterZ
- Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r]
- Samurai Shodown.
EVO 2020 actually features nine main lineup games, with the ninth title being Marvel vs. Capcom 2. However, the “20urnament of Champions” tournament will be an invitational tourney featuring eight of the most prominent players in Marvel vs. Capcom 2 history.
Granblue Fantasy Versus is one of the newcomer titles making its Evolution Championship Series debut this year. The other debut comes from Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r]. Samurai Shodown showed up with force and surprised many last year when it finished fourth in registrations with 1,719, but the game seems to have a slower start for this year’s event.
It comes as no surprise to see Super Smash Bros Ultimate on top for EVO 2020’s early registration count given its popularity and how it almost doubled last year’s second place with a record-breaking 3,492 registrations. Tekken 7, on the other hand, barely lost to Street Fighter V’s 1929 registrations with 1,885 of their own for EVO 2019. However, it looks like this year Tekken 7 could very well maintain the #2 position with all the hype surrounding its recent tournaments.
EVO 2020 returns to Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay from July 31 to August 2, 2020. Check out the final registration numbers for EVO 2019 here.
