Earlier, Bandai Namco announced that the Japanese version of Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum ‘n’ Fun on Nintendo Switch will be getting a large-scale free update with the new mode ‘Don Katsu Fight’. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]
Don Katsu Fight is a special 1v1 versus mode where the goal is to knock down your opponent’s HP to zero to win, or have the higher remaining HP when the song ends. The mode is compatible with all songs in the Switch version, as well as all DLC songs. Sadly, it is local-only with no online functionality.
You attack by playing well in order to store up power. When the power percentage reaches 100% you’ll launch an attack against the opponent’s HP.
During the game you’ll come across ‘Item Notes’ that will give you beneficial effects when played. For example, it will summon characters that can block the opponent’s screen, or power up your fighter by giving them 3x attack power.
Alongside ‘Don Katsu Fight’, Drum ‘n’ Fun is getting a new free DLC Namco Original song titled ‘Gold Armor’. It’s essentially the theme song of the new mode, and you can play this song in the new mode as well.
Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum ‘n’ Fun is available on the Nintendo Switch. The mode has not been announced for the English version yet.
