Tales of Symphonia uses the Multi-Line Linear Motion Battle System, which was revolutionary when it first came out since Symphonia was the first game with a 3D battlefield. Players run on lines that link them to a target, so you’re locked into running forward and backwards while attacking. Dawn of the New World expands on this with a free run and the Elemental Grid which you and enemies can change by using artes.
