Tekken’s First Actual “King of Iron Fist Tournament” Has A Cash Prize

The Tekken series has been around for over two decades, and Bandai Namco recently announced on the series’ official Twitter account that it’s getting its first official series tournament with a cash prize.

“The King of Iron Fist Tournament 2015” will decide who is the best player in the world in Tekken 7, along with a grand cash prize of 10 million yen (roughly $81,520 USD). The Osaka Challenge for the qualifiers will be held in September, while the Tokyo Challenge is to be held on October.

There will also be an additional round for the Japanese qualifiers in November, while a separate group of participants from outside of Japan, including this year’s EVO 2015 winners, and players from North America, South Korea and other countries, will have their own tickets to the tournament, which is expected to take place sometime in November or December.
