Back in 2015, Tencent, with the blessing and cooperation of Capcom, opened Monster Hunter Online, a China-based MMO that touted its enhanced graphics compared to the dated-looking Monster Hunter Frontier, as well as brand-new areas exclusive to it. In a post by the Monster Hunter Online team today, they revealed that the game will be ending service by December 31, 2019.

According to the MHO team, Tencent and Capcom’s contract ended without being renewed, and as such Tencent has no option but to end service for the game. Since 2015’s closed beta, it has been four good years for the game, and great memories all around for the team as well. They will be looking back at these four years with great joy, but also the sadness that it had to end so soon.

As of now, Monster Hunter Online has stopped allowing new players to register, although existing players will be able to continue on until December 31, 2019 China Standard Time.

Monster Hunter Online is available on PC until December 31, 2019.
