Terminator Zero takes place in 1997, where a soldier from the future has been sent back in time to prevent the arrival of Judgment Day. She is tasked with protecting a scientist named Malcolm Lee who is working on an AI to combat Skynet, while an assassin has been sent to kill him. While the show will be canon to the Terminator movies, it will feature entirely new characters.

Terminator Zero is a collaboration between Skydance, Production I.G. and Mattson Tomlin, who will act as showrunner. Tomlin has previously written the movie Project Power and worked as a script assistant on The Batman. The release date for Terminator Zero is a reference to Judgment Day, the franchise’s major catastrophic event when Skynet became self-aware.

Terminator Zero is one of several anime projects in development for Netflix. Anime based on the Devil May Cry and Tomb Raider franchises have also been teased for a future release.

Terminator Zero will be available to stream on Netflix from August 29, 2024.
