Testament was once a boss character from Guilty Gear but wasn’t playable during Guilty Gear Xrd or its sequels. In Guilty Gear Strive Testament returns with a new look and an updated characterization. Once portrayed as androgynous and referred to with male pronouns, Arc System Works has confirmed that Testament is agender. Agender is a form of non-binary identity that eschews gender classification entirely. Testament is thus referred to on the official website and in the Starter Guide video using “they/them” pronouns. They’re voiced in Japanese by Yuu Kobayashi, who also plays Enkidu in Fate/Grand Order and Sasha Braus in Attack on Titan.

In-game, Testament is a powerful zone character, dominating mid-range play with a wide variety of projectiles and far-reaching normal attacks. In Guilty Gear Strive Testament uses mechanics revolving around inflicting the “Stain” state on opponents. Hitting a Stained opponent with certain moves will automatically trigger a follow-up attack, opening them up for combos or further pressure.

Testament can also summon their Succubus familiars, using them as lingering projectiles to keep enemies in danger, and even alter the behavior of other projectiles. For example, Testament can set up a Succubus to float somewhere, then use Unholy Diver to cause their crow familiar to “home in” on the Succubus, resulting in an unpredictable flight path. Testament can even teleport to the Succubus’s location to reposition quickly.

Testament joins the Guilty Gear Strive roster on March 28, 2022. The game is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.
