Square Enix took to its Japanese social media account to celebrate the 24th anniversary of the Kingdom Hearts series with an illustration of a character from series creator, director, and artist Tetsuya Nomura, and it included a reference to the 25th anniversary. The image featured a note on it that mentioned the team is working toward that celebration. There were no other announcements shared in honor of the occasion.
It’s difficult to tell who the Kingdom Hearts character is in this new piece of Tetsuya Nomura art, but it’s possible it could be Yozora, who was referenced in the third game and its Re Mind DLC. The person has short grey hair and is wearing a black coat with a hood. It is also possible it is Riku or Xehanort. They are facing away from the viewer and holding a translucent umbrella. There are blue hydrangeas behind the character. In the bottom left corner is the message of thanks and note about the team working to prepare for March 28, 2027.
Here’s the full piece of art that appeared online.

It isn’t uncommon for Tetsuya Nomura to share Kingdom Hearts character art on special occasions. One of the last times it happened was on Halloween 2025. He drew the Halloween Town versions of Sora, Donald, and Goofy.
The next game in the series will likely be Kingdom Hearts 4. That will pick up where the last left off and feature Sora in Quadratum. We already saw some clips of it, with Strelitzia appearing as a notable character and playable Mickey Mouse segments shown. There’s no release window for it yet. Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link was supposed to show up in the meantime, but that ended up canceled in May 2025.
Kingdom Hearts 3 is available on the Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC, the fourth game is in development, and we might see some special reveal for the 25th anniversary on March 28, 2027.
