A fangame-turned-official has a very appropriate release date. The 13th Doll will arrive on October 31, 2019 to continue the legacy of The 7th Guest. It will bring people back to Stauf Mansion for a chance to confront Stauf’s legacy once more.
The 13th Doll is an FMV game following Tad, from The 7th Guest, and his doctor, Dr. Richmond, as they return to Stauf Mansion. The goal is for perhaps Tad to find closure as he tries to solve 25 puzzles and earn one of the five endings. However, given the nature of the series, things might not turn out so well for him.
Here’s The 13th Doll’s launch trailer.
There’s quite an interesting backstory behind The 13th Doll. The fan project began all the way back in 2004, but really started in earnest in January 2015. It was that year that Trilobyte, the original The 7th Guest developer, told Attic Door Productions that it would allow the fans to sell the game if a Kickstarter to fund it was successful. On July 26, 2015, the crowdfunding campaign began, and it reached $60,266 by August 27, 2015, fully funding the game and hitting three stretch goals. (These were Open House Mode, Classic Navigation Mode, and “No Debut for Developers! Unfortunately, the Oculus Rift, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Wii U version goals weren’t hit.) It originally had a tentative October 31, 2018 release date, but was then bumped back until now.
The 13th Doll will come to PCs on October 31, 2019. The original The 7th Guest is available for PCs and mobile devices.
