Drift Stage isn’t the only game in development that can be described as an effort to recreate the arcade racers of the 1990s. In fact, The ‘90s Arcade Racer was revealed before Drift Stage, when it was Kickstarted back in 2013, and you can see it in action in its latest footage.

Out of all the Sega arcade racers of the ‘90s, it’s Scud Race (Super GT), Daytona USA, and Indy 500 that Greek developer Antonis “Pelikan 13” Pelekanos put the most coins into, and so it’s those games that he’s aiming to recreate in The ‘90s Arcade Racer.

This means a focus on drifting physics, high speeds, and colorful sunshine environments to race across combined with the modern visuals and car handling models of today. You can see in the footage how far this effort has come along so far. There’s a particularly special moment when a large killer whale jumps out of the ocean and arches over the track.

The ‘90s Arcade Racer will be coming to the Wii U eShop, PC (Windows, Mac, and Linux), iOS, and Android.
