The Best Part Of Tank! Tank! Tank! Is When You’re A Monkey

I first played Tank! Tank! Tank! in arcades and the Wii U version is essentially a port. You start Tank! Tank! Tank! by taking a picture with the GamePad and selecting a wacky helmet or pirate hat to identify your tank on the map. It’s total chaos when four players scramble to shoot robot spiders. While Tank! Tank! Tank! is a player vs. monsters co-op game, whoever has the gamepad has a clear advantage. The three players with Wii remotes have to share a vertically split screen.

Tank! Tank! Tank! has one interesting addition on Wii U where the player with a GamePad controls a King Kong wannabe and the other four players work together to shoot the monkey down. The mecha monkey player attacks by slapping tanks, pounding the ground, and with (we’re not kidding!) a laser fart. Yes, Tank! Tank! Tank! is as wacky as the two developers that dressed up like tanks to promote their game. My Kong is the highlight of Tank! Tank! Tank!, but it’s a short mode that is only fun to play with a group of friends.

When nobody is around Tank! Tank! Tank! has a repetitive story mode to grind through. You have to earn medals to unlock more missions, which means replaying old missions over (and over and over) again just to play with a slightly different tank. It’s not worth spending time with Tank! Tank! Tank!’s single player mode. Like the original arcade game, Tank! Tank! Tank! is designed as a multiplayer action game. Perhaps, Namco Bandai should’ve skipped the story mode and released Tank! Tank! Tank! as a downloadable game? Four tanks and a monkey are enough tank action for me.
