The Binding Of Isaac Modding Tools Will Be Limited To Windows PCs

After revealing another upcoming DLC for The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth last time, Tyrone Rodriguez of Nicalis (who ported the game to consoles) has returned to the game’s official blog to answer some frequently asked questions.

Firstly, he clarifies that The Binding Of Isaac: Afterbirth † won’t be free and that it’ll require both Rebirth and the previous DLC, Afterbirth, to play. If you don’t recall Afterbirth † will add a bestiary and mod support, but it’ll also be a full (if “mini”) expansion with new bosses and items, among other things, so that’s what you’re paying for.

Rodriguez also teases that this new DLC should let you add all your own voice over effects to replace those in the game voiced by Matthias Bossi. That’ll be part of the mod support.

As to the platforms Afterbirth † will be available on: Windows, Mac, and Linux are certain, and it should also be heading to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

However, the modding tools will only be available for Windows PCs. But you will, at least, be able to play the mods on Mac and Linux that other people have created on Windows. They’re apparently aiming to make mods playable on PS4 and Xbox One too, but note that it may not be possible.

Finally, Rodriguez confirms that Afterbirth † will be out this year. Plus, he says that the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the original Afterbirth expansion should be finished by the end of February 2016, and then released shortly after.
