Sometimes, we don’t see the original manga series that inspires an anime adaptation worldwide after the show airs. It’s a shame! Especially when it’s a situation like The Demon King’s Daughter is too Kind anime and The Daughter of the Demon Lord is too Kind manga that preceded it. The adaptation is handled well and quite adorable. However, after going through the first volume of the Yuuya Sakamoto series, it feels like there’s an extra bit of nuance and attention that not only makes it even more precious, but helps show how critical and extraordinary Doux’s kindness and empathy can be.
Editor’s Note: There are no spoilers for the first volume of The Daughter of the Demon Lord is too Kind manga below.
Since the anime is pulling directly from the The Daughter of the Demon Lord is too Kind manga’s stories, the premise is the same. Young Doux is the daughter of the Demon Lord Ahriman. He’s known for his cruelty and strength, as well as for his domination and empire. The thing is that his daughter Doux is the sweetest, kindest, and most empathic being to ever exist. Due to his concern for her, he even stopped his campaign of evil. However, as the series begins, his attendant Jahi suggests she can actually make Doux a true demon, and the rest of the story involves her mentoring and training the child in the hopes she’ll become a big bad.

She does not. If anything, she becomes an even greater force of good because of Jahi exposing her to more abilities and people. It’s absolutely fantastic. From Doux trying to steal from humans turning into her healing one so she can keep working her farm (and sharing produce with the girl) to getting a demon hunter prisoner to change his profession after a quick talk, it’s like each chapter shows the little girl becoming an even better person. And, in turn, her father and people around her loving, doting on her more, and appreciating what she does because of it.
Now, as I mentioned earlier, there’s an additional nuance to The Daughter of the Demon Lord is too Kind manga that I feel wasn’t present in The Demon King’s Daughter is too Kind anime adaptation. This is because Yuuya Sakamoto included these additional responses and reactions that highlight how appreciated Doux is by everyone who meets her.
For example, when we discover Doux has a talent for ice magic, the chapter begins with a look at how blistering hot the mines where Lord Ahriman’s prisoners work. It then establishes how much Doux is enjoying the snowy weather outside and appreciates magic. Jahi decides to try and use this to get her used to using those sorts of spells to torture people and harden her heart. And Doux tries (and fails) in adorable ways! It’s only when her concern leads to her performing strong enough ice magic to proper extinguish Jahi’s fire spell that we start to see how the manga telling of this experience excels at conveying how special and appreciated she is. We see how her ice pillar and snow in the mines makes it more survivable and livable for the prisoners there. That Ahriman is proud of her for being able to accomplish that and repeatedly praises her. How even at the end, Jahi caves and accepts one of Doux’s ice pops while the daughter turns her father’s beard white with snow. There are all these extra details that come up when you look at the art and commentary that are just excellent.
The Daughter of the Demon Lord is too Kind manga feels more detailed, making it feel as necessary to see as The Demon King’s Daughter is too Kind anime. There are all these extra artistic details and comments from characters that highlight how lovely and sweet Doux can be. It’s such an intricate series that really captures the lead heroine’s kindness.
