The essential first party Playstation 3 games preview

We learned a lot about the hardware, but a video game system is about the games right? Final Fantasy XIII is in the line up along with a next generation Sonic and Tekken 6. Sony pulled out a couple other games in the press conference like Heavenly Sword, Genji 2, and Resistance Fall of Man. Check below to see what kind of first party support the PS3 is going to get.

Gran Turismo HD (prototype)

A demo of the next installment in SCEI’s Gran Turismo franchise was demonstrated at the event. However, Gran Turismo HD is not an actual product, yet. Using the power of the Playstaiton 3 the game was displayed using HD resolution (1920x1080p) with a refresh rate of 60 frames per second. This is twelve times higher than Gran Turismo 4.

Resistance: Fall of Man

By the team that made Ratchet & Clank comes Resistance: Fall of Man an alternate tale of the 20th century where the U.S. and Britain team up to combat the Chimera. This entity has a zombie-like effect where it converts other living beings into Chimera. U.S. Army Ranger, Sgt. Nathan Hale stands up to the frightening scourge. The game is at heart a first person shooter with online elements. By utilizing the power of the Playstation 3, Resistance: Fall of Man adds in new enemy behaviors, better visual effects and large battlefields to fight in.

SingStar

While the SingStar series was never released in the USA, SingStar has been a hit in Europe. The game is karaoke game where you pick up a microphone and sing your heart out. For the Playstation 3 SingStar lets you downlad songs, skins and upload your best (or worst) talents online. The game will include over 3,000 songs from the PS2 back catalouge and new songs to download.

Genji 2

Game Republic’s samurai action series fills the void of a hack and slash action game. Genji 2 picks up where the first game left off with Genkuro Yoshitsune’s story and adds in two times the gameplay. In the fifteen hours of game time players will be able to execute swordplay done by Mitsuhiko Seike, Japan’s finest sword fighter. The game also features the new ability of swapping between a team of characters. Rotate between four different characters or link up attacks for team combos.

Heavenly Sword

A legendary sword that once belonged to a deity might be the key to Nariko’s revenge. However, this sword’s power comes at the price of the user’s life. Nariko uses the sword as a last resort against a King who is invading her land. In this final mission of vengeance Nariko must utilize the sword’s power, three different stances and the surroundings to save her clan. Heavenly Sword’s vision comes true with the help of Andy Serkis who is the CG actor who played Gollum in the Lord of the Rings. Besides being involved in the creative process he plays the role of Nariko’s nemesis, King Botan.

The Eye of Judgment

By taking the elements of card battling and the next generation EyeToy, SCEI created the Eye of Judgement. The game is played on a 3 x 3 board with trading cards encrypted with a “cybercode”. Battles begin with players putting their cybercode in front of the camera to activate their character. Then they take turns using their character’s skills to control the board and win the battle. The Eye of Judgment can be played both offline and online. It seems like the Eye of Judgement is going to capture the Yu-Gi-Oh market.

Warhawk

Remade for a new generation, Warhalk returns with new graphics and online gameplay. During gameplay, players are tasked with protecting their homeland from the invading Chernovan armada.  By doing so, players take command of the most advanced war machine in the fleet, the Warhawk, capable of aerobatic dogfights at high speeds or hovering over ground troops providing tactical support.  Players continue the battle on foot with an arsenal of weaponry including pistols, rifles, grenades and more.  Furthermore, players can gain access to an array of ground vehicles and lay waste with powerful weapons mounted on jeeps, tanks and specialty transports.
