A new Paper Mario Switch game has been announced, and it will launch sooner than people might expect. Paper Mario: The Origami King will come to the Nintendo Switch on July 17, 2020. It appears to feature Mario allying with some unlikely allies, like Bowser and Bowser Jr., and dealing with origami and papier-mache foes sent by the Origami Kingdom’s King Olly.

This means that Mario will also have new abilities inspired by origami. For example, he has 1000-Fold Arms that let him alter the landscape by doing things like peeling it apart. King Olly’s sister, Olivia, will also be by Mario’s side to help him. All battles will be turn-based and involve a “ring-based battle system.”

Here is the first Paper Mario: The Origami King trailer. It begins by showing an origami Princess Peach, as well as other origami foes, and her asking if Mario wants to “crease” himself and be “reborn” like her.

An array of Paper Mario Switch screenshots have also been released.

Paper Mario: The Origami King will come to the Nintendo Switch on July 17, 2020. It will cost $59.99 and be available both digitally and physically. Preorders are now open for the title on the eShop. There is also already an official website open for it.
