Aeria Games is bringing Falcom’s Trails in the Sky series to smartphones. The two companies started working together on Sorcerian for iOS. Falcom asked "what’s next" and talks about Trails in the Sky began in August, according to this Famitsu interview with Takayuki Hatano from Aeria Games.
Hatano said since The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky was already ported from PC to PSP he didn’t want to simply make another port. Since the game is coming to a new platform, Hatano wanted to give players something new to experience. Since the Trails in the Sky trilogy follows set a timeline Hatano said he wants to cover what happens in between the games and add in a link to Trails of Zero which.
Trails in the Sky for iOS will be designed so you can play it while holding your phone vertically and with a one finger control scheme. Hatano also plans to add social elements into this version of Trails in the Sky. These features aren’t finalized, but Hatano is considering having friends help buddies by unleashing special attacks or finding items. He’s also kicking around the idea of creating a social store which will act like a weapon store, but instead of getting a new sword you’ll get quests to complete from friends.
Hatano also mentions the possibility of adding in extra content like new characters and storylines for popular characters as extra paid content, but customer feedback will determine if these updates will happen or not. First, Aeria Games needs to finish developing The Legends of Heroes: Trails in the Sky for iOS. The game does not have a release window.
