The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past 2 Has Been In The Works Since 2011

A spiritual successor to The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past was announced in last week’s Nintendo Direct. In a recent Japanese Wii U Direct focusing on Miiverse, Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma gave a little insight into the upcoming 3DS game, which actually has a “2” at the end of its title in Japan.

Said Aonuma via Miiverse Direct: “The world of Hyrule has been reborn in a highly realistic stereoscopic vision, which will feature a new story and new puzzles to be solved. The development for the successor of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is going smoothly, so, please look forward to it!”

Aonuma also hinted that the idea behind the concept of restructuring a 2D Zelda into 3D is something Nintendo have been working on since 2011. He requested: “The day we’ll be seeing the successor is still further ahead, but for those of you who wish to contribute or show your support, please comment on the Wii U The Legend of Zelda series community [on Miiverse].”

Here’s a look at the trailer that was shown in last week’s Nintendo Direct:

The successor to The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is scheduled for release this holiday season in North America and Europe.
