Lab Zero Games recently announced that it was renaming the upcoming PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita versions of Skullgirls Encore to Skullgirls 2nd Encore. The reason for this is to reflect how these versions of the game would have new features.
What Lab Zero didn’t announce at the time was what these new features would be. However, the studio has now done that in a recent blog post. “Currently these new features will be exclusive to the PS4/Vita releases, but we’re looking into releasing them as DLC on for the PC version,” writes Lab Zero.
So, what are the new features? First off, there will be a fully-voiced Story Mode delivered by “some of anime’s best and brightest,” according to Lab Zero. There’s a full cast list here. Secondly, there will be a new Challenge Mode that gives you unique battle conditions under which to beat opponents: “Can you beat Big Band without jumping? Or defeat triple Doubles?”
There will also be a Trials Mode, which will test your skill in performing combos, and a Survival Mode, which will throw an endless number of foes at you to defeat and see how long you can last.
Outside of game modes, Skullgirls 2nd Encore will have a full platinum trophy set, support cross-play with all PlayStation versions of the game (including PS3), as well as cross-buy between the PS4 and PS Vita versions. Lastly, the PlayStation 4 version will support PlayStation 3 fight sticks.
Oh, and Lab Zero also mentioned that Skullgirls 2nd Encore will be available to pre-order in the coming months, and if you do, you’ll get an exclusive PS4 theme.
