The PC Engine party that was

pce.jpgInsert Credit has been talking about the 20th Anniversary of the PC Engine, which passed last week. Two known events occurred… both in Japan. In one failed celebration German fans were accosted by police after taping a poster on a construction site in Akihabara. Not the best way to celebrate the home of Keith Courage!

There were happier events, like this small party in a bar somewhere in Tokyo where a crowd shared drinks over Bomberman. Since I spaced and forgot the system that brought us Bonk and Zonk had a special anniversary, I’ll kindly thank others for reminding me. My best memory of the PC Engine was when I saw the TurboExpress, basically a portable TurboGrafix-16. The device was the pinnacle of handheld gaming because you could play the console games on the road… for about two hours when the batteries died.

Anyone else have fond memories of NEC’s first and last console?
