Third-party Genshin Impact Account Linking Can Require New miHoYo Accounts

MiHoYo clarified the steps people might have to take when linking Genshin Impact accounts. Depending on how someone started when playing the Android or Apple iOS version of the game, they might have to make an entirely new miHoYo Account to be able to connect them. Which means if you opted to sign in with an option like Facebook, Google, or Twitter when you started the game on a mobile device, only a new miHoYo Account can be linked to it by choosing the linking option in User Center in the Settings’ Account section.

The official site offers step-by-step instructions for someone who is making a new miHoYo account strictly for Genshin Impact account linking purposes. Essentially, once someone finds their way to the User Center, they will see an option to Link Account under the account they are using. They can then link that UID and account to an email or username, creating a new miHoYo account in the process. You’re then set and should also be able to, say, use that account to go between the mobile and PC versions.

This is a critical feature, because Genshin Impact account linking can have bearing on data transfer. With certain versions of the game, it is possible to continue progress on both accounts. For example, the Genshin Impact save data transfer applies to the PC and mobile versions of the game. (Cross-play is an option on all platforms.)

Genshin Impact is available for the PlayStation 4, PC, and both Android and Apple iOS devices. It is also in development for the Nintendo Switch.
