Toys “R” Us Stores Re-Opening in Japan

Toys “R” Us announced that four stores will re-open in Japan between March and April 2025. Various stores from the toys and children’s goods specialty franchise temporarily closed for renovations. They are now poised to return throughout the country.

The four stores will act as Toys “R” Us and Babies “R” Us double locations. This means that, in addition to selling toys, the stores will also offer children’s clothing and baby products. This is also similar to how many of the locations used to function when they appeared in the US and worldwide.

Here are the locations of the four Toys “R” Us stores returning to Japan, as well as their re-opening dates:

  • Kisogawa store (Aichi Prefecture) – March 28, 2025
  • Morioka Minami (Iwate Prefecture) – April 18, 2025
  • Tressa Yokohama store (Kanagawa Prefecture) – April 25, 2025
  • Fukuoka Kasuya store (Fukuoka Prefecture) – April 25, 2025

Toys “R” Us filed for bankruptcy back in 2017 and 2018, and all stores throughout the US, UK, and Australia closed by the end of 2021. The retail store was less affected in Asia, where locations still remained opened after the closure of the American, European, and Australian stores. Toys “R” Us stores have slowly started to reappear in the US since August 2021 in the form of smaller locations, flagship stores, and pop-up stores.

Toys “R” Us Japan will re-open 4 stores between March and April 2025 after temporarily closing them for renovations.
