A Cave Story crossover is really coming to Umihara Kawase Fresh. Curly Brace will be playable. It was revealed on Twitter with two screenshots and a note confirming future updates for the game. The tweet notes that she will appear in July 2019, which is when the game will appear worldwide.
Here is the tweet revealing Curly Brace. Her appearing alongside the western debut makes sense, since Nicalis is handling publishing duties there and has quite a history with Cave Story. Also, in addition to Curly Brace, a new character story and bug fixes will appear.

The funny thing about Curly Brace’s inclusion is that this isn’t the first time it has been brought it up. The April Fools’ 2019 Umihara Kawase Fresh! joke was that Curly Brace would appear in the game.

This will not be Umihara Kawase Fresh’s first callback. Back in September 2018, Cotton: Fantastic Night Dreams‘ Cotton was confirmed as a playable character. Studio Saizensen has also said retro stages could be on the way in 2019.

Umihara Kawase Fresh! is now available on the Nintendo Switch in Japan. Nicalis will release it in North America and Europe on July 9, 2019.
