This weekend the Nintendo DSi launched in Japan and Internet scalpers like this fellow stocked up on systems. He has nearly 50 Nintendo DSis listed on Yahoo Auctions and most of them have a starting price of 25,000 yen ($252). Unfortunately, for him they aren’t selling at that price. The systems in red have less than one hour left with no bidders. This particular user’s negative feedback may have scared off some bidders, but as a whole DSis aren’t getting a whole lot of mark up on Yahoo Auctions. Systems priced close to or at the 18,900 yen ($190) retail price are selling, but anyone expecting to cash out with a mini fortune is out of luck.
Things are a little different domestically where the Nintendo DSi hasn’t been released. The system is being sold at a premium on eBay, which is expected since it’s unreleased an an import item. However, even locally the Nintendo DSi isn’t commanding the $300 price tag some import retailers are selling it for. You can probably get one in the USA for around $230 if you go the eBay route.
