What Pokemon Does Kieran Use in Scarlet and Violet DLC?

Kieran is one of your newfound rivals in the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC, The Teal Mask. During your visit to Kitakami, you meet up with Kieran, who becomes your partner during the various adventures you go on. But he also battles you quite often. These are the Pokemon you’ll have to deal with when you face him.

What Pokemon Does Kieran Use in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet The Teal Mask?

Here are the Pokemon Kieran uses in The Teal Mask:

  • Yanmega: Bug/Flying-type
  • Poliwrath: Water/Fighting-type.
  • Furret: Normal-type.
  • Gliscor: Ground/Flying-type.
  • Shiftry: Grass/Dark-type.
  • Dipplin: Grass/Dragon-type.

Note that the team could potentially vary depending on your progress in the main game. For instance, if you haven’t beaten all of the Gyms yet, he might not have fully-evolved Pokemon, etc. For me having beaten the main story, his Pokemon were often in the level 60s range and fully-evolved.

He also doesn’t start out with all six Pokemon on his team, either. He has a few at first and then it gradually increases the more times you fight him in battle.

How to Beat All of Kieran’s Pokemon

If you can get a Flying or Ice-type Pokemon, or one with those moves like a Tera type, you can dominate a large portion of Kieran’s team. For Ice, in particular, more than half of his team is weak to Ice and some even have 4x the damage with a double weakness to it. That said, there are other types that can help you out in this fight.

Here are all of the weaknesses each of his Pokemon have in the DLC:

  • Yanmega: Flying, Rock, Electric, Fire, and Ice
  • Poliwrath: Psychic, Flying, Electric, Fairy, and Grass
  • Furret: Fighting
  • Gliscor: Water and Ice
  • Shiftry: Bug, Flying, Fighting, Poison, Fire, Fairy, and Ice
  • Dipplin: Flying, Ice, Dragon, Poison, Fairy, and Bug
