What Took Magnacarta 2 So Long To Develop?

Recommended Videos

Part of the reason is Magnacarta 2 bares little resemblance to its predecessor. The combat system has real time battles, all of the characters are new, and the game is being built on the Xbox 360. Why else? Yoshihisa Kanesaka a key member of the Banpresto division tells us and explains how Magnacarta 2 connects with Magna Carta: Crimson Stigmata.

How come Magnacarta 2 took so long to develop?

Yoshihisa Kanesaka, Manager of 1/CS Production Department 1: It’s been about four years and eight months since the announcement of beginning development on this project. One of the biggest reasons as to why it took so long to develop this game is we wanted to build a new battle system from the ground up. This game has a completely new battle system.

The second reason is the illustrator, Kim Hyung Tae, wanted to make sure the models that were developed very closely match his illustrations drafted for the character design. We put a lot of energy into these two things from the ground up which is why it took so long.

How come the character art in Magnacarta 2 looks different from Magna Carta: Crimson Stigmata?

With regards to the differences from the first game, even though Kim Hyung Tae is designing the character design for the second one it is a completely new world with completely new characters. It has a different feel to it and that is why the illustrations are different.

What inspired the story?

In order to continue the theme of the previous games, I wanted to make a game that followed the previous themes of love, sacrifice, and destiny. That became the focus and inspiration.

Are there any connections between Magna Carta: Crimson Stigmata and Magnacarta 2?

The three main elements that are common throughout the series are: The stories have a heavy theme of love and hatred. The second is there is an elemental power in this world called “kan” it represents fire, water, wind, and lightning – it existed in its predecessors and exists in this game as well. The third is the presence of an absolute power called “Magnacarta”. That has been a common theme in all of the Magna Carta titles up to now and that have been carried over. Other than that there are no connections.

How does the “kan” power work in the battle system?

The kan that’s used in battle… essentially there are some characters that are stronger than other using elements aspects. Just like the first one some characters are associated with a particular kan element while others are associated with a different kind [of kan]. Using the element that is powerful in a particular region would all you to conduct battle more effectively. For instance, if you have an environment strong with lightning kan you want to use a character associated with lightning kan.
