Heading into the foreground and background in Piranha Plants on Parade

Multiple courses in Super Mario Bros Wonder have secret exits. Usually, if a level doesn’t display a green checkmark on the course screen, it has a secret you’ve yet to discover. Piranha Plants on Parade is one of these levels, hiding a secret right at the start of the game. While its location isn’t obvious, it’s relatively easy to access once you know where it is.

There’s a clue to this secret exit at the start of Piranha Plants on Parade. Early on, there is a red pipe that will take you into the background, where you can pick up a 10-Flower Coin. Another red pipe will bring you back.

After activating the Wonder Flower, the resident Piranha Plants will put on a performance for you. Keep an eye on the scenery during this, and you’ll notice a set of pipes will appear in the foreground, two green and one red. This red pipe is your clue, as the last time you encountered these pipes, they allowed you to pass between layers. The question is, where is the other end of this pipe?

Where is the Secret Exit in Piranha Plants on Parade in Super Mario Bros Wonder?

After collecting the Wonder Seed, look up and you’ll see three pipes that are sticking out at various angles. Use the note blocks to the right of this to reach the eastmost pipe of the three, which can be used as a ledge. This leads to a hidden route above where you’ll find a red pipe. Enter this to emerge from the red pipe that appeared during the song.

Now you can walk through the foreground, right past the normal flagpole to a second pipe. Enter this and you’ll be in front of a second flagpole.

Finding this secret exit will grant you another Wonder Seed and access to a Captain Toad hiding place, where he’ll hand over 50 Flower Coins.

Super Mario Bros Wonder is available now for Nintendo Switch.
