Which Mortal Kombat Characters Do You Like Best?

It’s a good year for fans of Mortal Kombat. We’ll see the series rebooted again in 2023 with Mortal Kombat 1. Already we’ve seen teases for it. It doesn’t seem like the full cast is revealed just yet. But quite a few fighters are confirmed to return. Ahead of its launch later this year, we figured we’d talk about some of the Mortal Kombat characters we like best.

I’m not great at playing Mortal Kombat! Which means I’m the sort of player who gets annoying. I find a character that I like and a move that’s handy for me, and I’ll spam it in the hopes things work out for me. As a result, I feel like Sub Zero is the best Mortal Kombat character, because I can learn the input for his Ice Ball attack, use it, attack, then run away. (Maybe I’ll occasionally slide to change things up!) — Jenni

Not to be contrarian to Jenni’s love of Sub-Zero, but the best character is clearly Scorpion (with Mileena right on his tail). Flinging the spear to pull someone in for an uppercut? The cry of “Get over here!”? Pulling off the mask to reveal a fire-breathing skull? Scorpion is the reason I picked up the series years ago, and was the only reason I ever beat Mortal Kombat on the Game Boy. For that alone, he’ll be the best character forever. — Joel
