Best Agents in Zenless Zone Zero
With the release of Version 1.5, Zenless Zone Zero now features 27 Agents to choose from in battle. With so many options, it can be difficult to know which are the best at their respective roles. But if you were to pick just one of each Speciality, here are our recommendations.

Best Attack Agent – Ellen Joe
The best Attack Speciality Agents in Zenless Zone Zero need to be able to rack up large amounts of damage in a short space of time, while also being able to throw some AoE effects to catch out a wider group. Ellen Joe, Victoria Housekeeping’s sleepy shark Thiren, fits the bill perfectly. Her speed and relentless combo ability allow her to get into the action quickly and deal a lot of damage.
That’s not all though, as her whole toolkit builds on this in significant ways. Her basic combo will see her slip behind the enemy, allowing to keep dishing out damage without fear of reprisal. Her dodge can be chained directly into Arctic Ambush, which builds up extra Flash Freeze for more Ice DMG. The third hit of her EX Special Attack deals a ton of damage across a wide area. When called in during an Assist or when using her Ultimate, she will activate a huge AoE attack that’s likely to catch most enemies in the vicinity. She’s a personal favorite in most of my setups for a reason, as she’s as ruthless as her shark nature would suggest.
As secondary options, both Zhu Yuan and Asaba Harumasa are no slouches. Zhu Yuan naturally has speed and evasion on her side and mixes up Physical and Ether damage in her basic combo. Her Shotshell blasts can also be devastating to stunned enemies. Meanwhile, Asaba excels at stacking damage over time, building into a more powerful slash attack. His range also keeps him evasive too.

Best Stun Agent – Qingyi
Stun Agents in Zenless Zone Zero excel at building up Daze, meaning the best Agents in this category can attack quickly to build up the Daze bar faster. This makes them similar to Attack Agents, but speed is more important here in order to get enemies into weakened states as fast as possible. One of the fastest at racking up damage in this way is Qingyi, PubSec’s resident android.
The main reason for this is how quickly she can build up her Flash Connect Voltage meter, which increases her damage output and gives her access to the more powerful Enhanced Moonlit Blossoms. This enhanced basic attack adds extra stacks of stun multiplier, so you’ll want to apply this as soon as possible. Thankfully, the third hit of her endless combo can be mashed forever, quickly building up this meter. It also ends in a heavy attack, so on weaker enemies, you can trigger a Chain Attack faster than most simply by hitting this until the Daze meter fills. The fact she can dodge and continue this mashing is an additional strength she has.
Failing this, Anby makes a decent, if not spectacular, minor version of this, and is likely to be more accessible to most players as she’s a freebie. However, if you have Qingyi, you’ll likely never use Anby again. Until her Silver Soldier S Rank variant releases, at least.

Best Anomaly Agent – Hoshimi Miyabi
Anomaly Agents in Zenless Zone Zero excel at building up status effects on enemies, so the best Agents here are those that can fill that meter quickly. And no one comes close to Hoshimi Miyabi, the katana-wielding fox Thiren of Section 6. Her damage output puts even a lot of Attack and Stun Agents to shame.
Let’s be real here, Miyabi is OP. Her attacks are fast, heavy-hitting and cover a wide space. Her fully charged Shimotsuki is not only a strong AoE, it’s three in a row. Her EX Special Attack can be chained two times in a row, allowing to attack from a distance and evade potential counters simultaneously. Where she excels in being an Anomaly Agent is in her unique status as a Frost user. Because this acts like Ice but is classified as its own element, she can be used to trigger Disorder in a team of exclusively Ice Attribute Agents, something no other Agent in the game is capable of. Couple this with how easily she can apply no less that three status effects to her foes (Freeze, Shatter, Frostbite) and she reveals herself to be a powerhouse.
Some other Anomaly Agents are decent, with Burnice, Yanagi and Jane Doe all boasting their own strengths. But they’re nowhere near the same level as Miyabi.

Best Support Agent – Astra Yao
I personally haven’t found much use for the Support Agents in Zenless Zone Zero. While they generally apply buffs and debuffs, I’ve never really felt their effects. This leaves most of these Agents feeling like sluggish damage dealers best used to activate chains. That is, until the release of Astra Yao, who is exactly what a great Support Agent should be.
On her own, Astra is fairly mediocre, especially as her Idyllic Cadenza stance locks her in place and slows her down considerably. However, with a full party her presence becomes powerful, increasing opportunities to perform Assists and throwing some noticeable buffs around. With Astra in your party, a successful parry can lead to her throwing some Ether damage at your foe, buffing your attack and immediately allowing you to jump back to a damage dealer. This also creates a chain of quick assists between the other two party members for as long as her song is active. All this plus her Ultimate heals the party, something no other character in the game is capable of.
And you get some music to go along with all the buffs, which is a nice bonus.

Best Defense Agent – Caesar King
At present, there are only three Defense Agents in Zenless Zone Zero, and while they all have their own strengths, there is one clear candidate for the best of the trio. Caesar King is a tank with a ton of extra advantages to boost these defensive capabilities.
Her basic attacks are strong, with the possibility for an AoE with her held attack. She’s relatively quick and evasive for a Defense Agent. She’s also a solid support, as her own defensive capabilities see her handing other party members limited shields. But where Caesar King truly excels in being a strong defensive character is her Parry Counter, activated by using her Special Attack in time with an enemy. She’s the only character in the game capable of this and the damage she can inflict with it is impressive. Definitely a frontrunner if you want to play more defensively.
Ben is also a solid option for defense as he can tank damage for days. However, his abysmal speed is a significant hindrance, especially when it comes to just moving around the map.
Zenless Zone Zero is available now for PC, PS5 and mobile devices.
