Final Fantasy XV has an action oriented battle system, so instead of choosing guard from a menu players have to time their blocks similar to Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. Noctis can parry attacks and a successful parry knocks an enemy back allowing you to counterattack. The downside of a parrying is your block has to be right when an enemy attacks. That makes parrying riskier, but there is a greater reward.
Alternatively, players can quickly evade attack by flipping out of the way.
Noctis can also close distance between himself and enemies by teleporting. If this reminds you of The 3rd Birthday’s Overdrive system, you’re right. Director Hajime Tabata explained to Siliconera that he drew upon that idea from the PSP shooter for Final Fantasy XV’s battle system.
Spiral Stab is one of Noctis battle abilities. He can use this attack when armed with his main weapon.
Final Fantasy XV is in development for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
