Aksys is working on a “new” Jake Hunter game. By “new” we mean an expanded and remixed version of Jake Hunter: Detective Chronicles. Jake Hunter Detective Chronicles: Memories of the Past, as Siliconera commenter Nekobo brought to our attention (thanks!!), is the first Tantei Jinguuji Saburo game for the Nintendo DS.

Jake Hunter Detective Chronicles: Memories of the Past has six episodes and five comic Jake Hunter Unleashed side stories. This number includes the original three episodes Aksys released on the Nintendo DS last year with a revised script. We asked Aksys about it. “The new localization is probably more comedic, contains definitely more dry, sarcastic sense of humor,” Harry Chang, Assistant Marketing Manager at Aksys Games, explains.

Compared to the previous localization it sounds like Memories of the Past is going to be more lighthearted and less hard boiled. The Jake Hunter Unleashed episodes are also playable, Harry tells us they are quite the challenge, and this Jake Hunter game has one episode made specifically for the Nintendo DS. Aksys also has a surprise for anyone who was a fan of the first game. Developer interviews and extra short stories, stuff you would usually find as DVD extras, are stored on the cart.

Jake Hunter didn’t get a warm reception here, but given Aksys’ new direction for the series are you willing to give him a second chance?
