Skies of Arcadia and Wind of Nostalgio both have airship battles, but the way Tecmo / Matrix does things makes airship encounters just like regular turn based combat. I jumped into a few random airship fights in Wind of Nostalgio at Tokyo Game Show and saw turn based menus. In the sky there are some differences like pseudo multi-screen combat and ferocious pteranodons. While this screenshot just shows two monsters more creatures or airships can be flanking you. When you select other enemies the non-existent camera flips to another image with the other attackers. These alternate screens are really “groups” when you pull out and shoot a machine gun you can only hit one group of enemies. If you fired your gun here both pterandodons would take damage and probably die.
A turn meter lets you know when you can pick a move like diving forward with a giant blade. Each of the four party members get their own turn and you don’t need to select all of the moves then watch the action like Skies of Arcadia. Airship combat is classic RPG combat just with airships.
