The Xbox Live Indie Games program, better known to some as XBLIG, is coming to an end. Xbox 360 owners will only be able to purchase titles that are part of the promotion until September 29, 2017. Owned games will still be able to be accessed, played, and redownloaded, but no new purchases will be able to be made after that point in time.
XBLIG games are developed by independent developers with the Microsoft XNA tools. The program itself was announced during the 2008 Game Developers Conference, with the full service launching on November 19, 2008. All games are under 500MB and under $10. They each have an eight-minute trial period.
Those wanting to try some of the more notable XBLIG Xbox 360 games still have time. Protect Me Knight, the precursor to Gotta Protectors, is a real-time strategy game where multiple players attempt to protect a princess. CastleMiner Z, the sequel to CastleMiner, is a block-based sandbox game where players build up worlds with blocks and fight against enemies like dragons and zombies. I Made a Game with Zombies in It is a twin-stick shoot’em up with zombies. Blocks That Matter is a puzzle-platformer where you collect blocks and use them to build things in puzzle mode to proceed through levels.
