While 2KMarin work on their XCOM shooter, Civilization developer, Firaxis Games, are working on XCOM: Enemy Unknown, a strategy game that uses a blend of turn-based and real-time design.
If you’re familiar with Firaxis and Civilization, you’ve probably also heard of designer, Sid Meier, who is the company’s co-founder, and has had his name in the title of most of its games, starting with Sid Meier’s Gettysburg! in 1997.
While Meier’s name won’t be attached to XCOM: Enemy Unknown, Meier himself will be in the game. At a demonstration at E3 today, we saw Meier available as a recruitable character. In the E3 demo I watched, he controlled an alien with his mind before making the alien kill itself with a grenade.
XCOM: Enemy Unknown will be released on October 9th in North America and October 12th internationally, for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. You can watch the game’s E3 trailer below:
