Yakuza Kiwami 2 is a remake of the 2006 game Yakuza 2, and Sega today showed off screenshots of Soutenbori, the counterpart to Kamurocho that Kiryu will visit in the Kansai region. [Thanks, 4gamer]
Similar to Kamurocho, Soutenbori is the entertainment district of Kansai, with tourists all around, and lively voices that can be heard late into the night. Soutenbori is based on Osaka, and there are various collaborations set up with famous real life chain stores in order to recreate the feeling of the city at night. One aspect that Sega paid attention to was the recreation of places in Osaka as they looked in 2006, the year that Yakuza 2 came out.
Soutenbori’s riverside promenade is remarkably quiet for such a bustling place, and attracts all sorts of people who have troubles they want to hide. Furthermore, after certain events, a boat selling weapons may come nearby.
On the opposite side of the river of Soutenbori is Shoufuku-machi, the ‘Adult’s Town’. It has bars, karaoke places, shogi places, mahjong parlours and casinos, and other places that the player can enter.
Finally, Sega showed off two side stories that happen in Soutenbori.
Kiryu’s Model Debut:
In Soutenbori is a man who scouts Kiryu to take place of a male model who has disappeared suddenly. If Kiryu accepts, he is brought to the photographer, who specializes in taking pictures of human bodies to show off humankind’s bodily strengths. Kiryu reluctantly follows along and performs various poses in order to try inspire the photographer.
The Old Lady’s Tragedy:
In southern Shoufuku-machi, Kiryu bumps into a talkative old lady who is confronted by a convenience store manager. She is accused of shoplifting from the store, and as the argument drags on Kiryu gets dragged into it as well. If Kiryu helps her out, she might give Kiryu a very passionate reward…
Yakuza Kiwami 2 releases in Japan on December 7, 2017 for PlayStation 4. Previously, Siliconera reported on the new story and gameplay trailers for the upcoming game.
