Yoko Taro Bakuken Stage Play Will Run in 2025

In a retrospective interview with Famitsu, Yoko Taro mentioned that the Bakuen stage play will run at the end of 2025. This isn’t set in stone, though, and he also mentions he doubts anyone will remember something this far in the future. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

When discussing his resolution for the next year, Yoko said that a lot of projects suddenly started and stopped in 2024. So he really felt that it’s useless to try and think about or make plans for the future. He goes to sleep at night wondering if he’ll unexpectedly become super rich in 2025. Then, when discussing his recent activities, he states that his stage play Bakuen might return at the end of 2025. He handled both the original story and script for the play.

Bakuen is a series of plays that Yoko wrote and scripted, with the first one appearing in 2021. Like he said in his New Year message for 2024, the newest entry in the series (Teikoku Gensou Heidan) appeared before the end of the year. It ran in Japan from December 19 to 23, 2024.

Though this has nothing to do with Bakuen, Yoko took this opportunity to talk about the ongoing conflicts in real life. In the section about what he’d like to bring attention to, he talks about how he wants wars to end and children to stop dying in them. Though he didn’t specify which conflicts he’s talking about, he specifically mentioned Gaza in his end-of-year message to 4Gamer in 2023. He also brought up war in his 2024 message to 4Gamer, talking about how there are still conflicts all over the world before laughing in despair.

A new Bakuen play should appear in Japan at the end of 2025.
