Final Fantasy XIII-2 takes place a few years after the events in Final Fantasy XIII where survivors began rebuilding Gran Pulse. After saving Cocoon Lightning is nowhere to be found. While the Final Fantasy XIII-2 teaser trailer showed Lightning in new armor, the stoic protagonist of Final Fantasy XIII is believed to be dead by many.
Serah has hope that her sister is still alive, but before she can set off her town is suddenly overrun by monsters. Noel, a new character, steps in to save her and the two leave in search of Lightning.
Final Fantasy XIII-2 is slated for release this winter on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
