Following the announcement of Ys IX: Monstrum Nox last week, Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo had more details to share in an interview featured in this weekā€™s issue of Famitsu magazine. [Thanks, Hachima.]

  • The subtitle of Monstrum Nox, which basically means night of the monsters, is the main concept of the game.

  • The setting of Barduke is a three-dimensional city that has focus on its elevation differences. There will be grasslands, forests, ruins, and more in the outskirts, similar to the conventional series.

  • The setting is during an age after Ys Seven, where weā€™ll see Adol at the oldest weā€™ve seen him so far in the series. It appears that heā€™s gained some fame around the world as an adventurer.

  • The party battles and simple controls are just as they were, with a new kind of superpower action that come from the monsters with supernatural powers.

  • Some of these supernatural actions include being able to run on walls, moving as shadows, and more.

  • The new ā€œGuild Managementā€ system is an upgraded version of the ā€œDrifting Villageā€ feature from Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana.

  • The hooded girl with artificial arms and legs is a major key to the story.

  • Development is 50% complete.

Ys IX: Monstrum Nox releases for PlayStation 4 in Japan in 2019.
