The statement from MAPPA contained an apology to fans, a well as a note thanking them for supporting the series throughout its production. The cancellation itself was only attributed to “various circumstances,” and further details about the situation were not provided.

The Yuri on Ice anime series follows Yuri Katsuki, a Japanese figure skater considering retiring until he is visited by fellow figure skaters Victor Nikiforov and Yuri Plisetsky. The movie, which was first announced back in 2017, was expected to be a continuation of the original tale or new arc for their story.

Back in June, 2023, MAPPA uploaded the opening of Yuri on Ice to its Youtube channel, which featured Dean Fujioka’s “History Maker”. More recently, MAPPA announced that it would be producing a sequel to the Dorohedoro anime adaptation back in January, 2024.

Production of Yuri on Ice the Movie: Ice Adolescence has been canceled by MAPPA. The Yuri on Ice anime series is available to watch on Crunchyroll and Amazon.
