Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon Cross Trailer Has Twice The Tales

By Spencer . March 29, 2010 . 2:56am

Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon Cross is actually two games in one. The PSP double feature packs the very first remake of Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon and Tales of Phantasia: Cross Edition. Yes, we’re talking about another remake of Phantasia.

While Tales of Phantasia looks like… Tales of Pantasia, Namco Bandai’s random dungeon game has come along way. Take a look at the original Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon as it appeared ten years ago on the Game Boy Color.

So what are the chances we’ll get this one in English? I really hate Namco Bandai. I ended up importing Phantasia FVE and absolutely loved it. Seeing as how it’s included in here, it may have a higher chance of coming in English. If they planned this before, it could also be the reason FVE didn’t come out in English to begin with.

Commencing with spamming Namco Bandai’s forums to get them to bring this over! >.>

    • Extra_Life

I doubt the chances are good, but if this were to happen, I think I’d have my favourite PSP game right there.

    • yukichan

Im tired that Namco Bandai Games only bring bad games, and not Tales series

      • Kris

        Ditto :/

      • Add the fact that IT’S OVER 9000 times busy with Dragonball in this gaming generation.

    • Masengan

They are willing to bring that muscle race game (nothing against muscle race games) for the Wii but no tales games? I wish I had a 360 so I can play Vesperia because my Vesperia PS3 bubble was ripped to shreads. Knight of Ratatosk was a disaster.

      • thebanditking

I have a 360 and Vesperia but I have yet to play it because I am waiting to see if the PS3 version ever releases in english. KLnowing so much was removed from the 360 game makes it feel incomplete so I will only play it that way once I am positive the PS3 version will never release.

  • where’s my f*ing Vesperia?! dam… this suks…

  • Vanilla

It’s amazing how much sprites on the PSP STILL piss me off.

…And thanks to NB’s horrible track record, I don’t even want this game. Where’s my REBIRTH?

    • I second that notion. I want my REBIRTH AND TOD2!

      • Kris

        I want Hearts and Graces.

        • speedstersonic

Graces was released, what 2 months ago, and still no news. I can somewhat understand Hearts, but Graces not being released? I think the Tales fans have to give up. We aren’t getting anymore. Why can’t NB just let someone else do the localizing. I’m sure Atlus would do it if they were allowed. No, they just want to be assholes.

          • The problem with Namco Bandai is that they’d charge Atlus OVER 9000 times the ACTUAL amount of the Tales license.

          • Vanilla

They probably decide what gets localized through rock paper scissors or something. Radiant Mythology, for one, drew a “what the HELL?” reaction from quite a few fans I’m sure.

I know, they seriously need to pass the baton.

          • CoolChibi

Yeah, I want Radiant Mythology 2 to come out, and Vesperia PS3! I hate Namco, they suck! I wish they would release the Summon Knight games and The [email protected] games here as well… they’re so annoying!

    • Well i could never beat tales of phantasia because the battles were too boring, this could be good in a way =0, and sprite are cool

      • Vanilla

On the DS, yes. It’s just a shame that more devs still aren’t taking advantage of its 3D capabilities (look at Crisis Core and BBS–both great and gorgeous games).

        • CoolChibi

Well the 3D backgrounds are nice.

  • Artavasdus

I think this game isn’t such an intelligent move on Namco’s part. The first ToP remake on Psp sold not so good (around 110k, I think) and Narikiri 1 is probably the most obscure release in the whole series, even if it is an interesting title both gameplay-wise and for the plot tidbits about Dhaos and the Aselia timeline.

I don’t think that this bundled remake edition will make a significant profit given that the ToP fans would have already bought the first Psp remake, and I’m a bit pissed by the lack of serious Tales announcements (by this time they would have normally unveiled the next mothership Tales game :), not to mention the sad topic of western localizations.

    • I don’t know, 110k seems quite good…for a remake (of a remake of a remake).

What makes me think “…wtf” is that this is the second remake for the same handheld, and the first PSP remake is not hard to find. Amazon, Play-Asia et al. all have the Best Price version in stock. Seems like a good way to cannibalize whatever sales they had left on that…

  • Xien12

To be honest, people are going to be playing this for Narikiri and not ToP itself. Funny. It looks like they couldn’t be assed to remake Phantasia.

  • SFC -> PSX -> GBA -> PSP -> PSP again? This is the worst milking of a single game that I can think of.

…On a lighter note, that GBC Narakiri video has the player going through (a heavily wussified) Tower of Druaga. I didn’t expect that—how cute.

    • Ereek

Not even Lunar has been remade as often.

      That’s really saying something.

    • malek86

I think FF1+2 has been done more times than that. NES -> WSC -> PSX -> GBA -> PSP -> iPhone.

      • Artavasdus

The first two Ys games have probably the longest portingremake list: Pc98, Msx, Nes, Master System, Pc Engine, Pc (two versions), Cellphones, Ps2, Ds, Psp, and I am probably still forgetting something XD

      • Now that Artavasdus has commented, I think he’s right. Ys I & II might beat out even FF I & II. Don’t know how many different Japanese-only cellphone versions there were of either game, though.

I thought the iPhone FFs were identical to the PSP versions aside from touchscreen control—ports, rather than remakes. (Though I’m starting to lose track of the difference between the two, with how many retreads we’re getting these days…)

    • epy

What kinda pisses me off is that only the sprites for the main characters were redone while everything else (even the human characters) have the 90s SD look.

That last battle with Dhaos in the FVE looked very awkward.

  • Damn namco bandai, if they arent bringing tales of vesperia for ps3, neither tales of radiant mythology 2, nor tales of hearts, etc, im not sure about this one either, i dont understand why they dont bring tales of games T.T

  • TeaGreen

Tales of Pantasia… oh how funny a crossover that could be. I can just imagine the cast of Yakitate Japan re-enacting Tales of Phantasia already!

  • TeaGreen

Oh man.. Tales of Pantasia, I can just imagine the cast of Yakitate Japan in a Phantasia remake… That would be pure gold lol

  • sd28

dear god are people here stupid or something one game is a remake of a game they have never remade and an enhanced version of an existing game all packed together how hard is this for people to under stand

its essentially to games in one

  • puchinri

Not that I even have a PSP to be able to play this, but I would snatch my sister’s.

More importantly, can we have some of the other Tales games?
Is there a reason why they hate giving anything to us?
I still want the ToD Director’s Cut, Rebirth, Hearts and even Tempest.
Innocence, Eternia on PSP and ToW:MW2 wouldn’t hurt.

  • wharcraff

That’s nice there having another remake for the JPN market. Maybe when I hear some news about Tales of Graces coming Stateside I’ll start to care..maybe.

  • holyPaladin

Haha like everyone, I want Namco Bandai to release all Tales games in US version..
Although I already played all JP Tales on PS2 (ToD2,ToR,ToS,ToD DC).

  • Vino (Tim N)

God dammit! I want this game! I never got the first ToP PSP remake, so I’m totally going to import this.
But I don’t understand why Namco Bandai are being so stupid with the Tales of series in North America, do they not listen to the fans outbursts? Did the release of Vesperia PS3 fan outrage scare them into a corner?

  • cowcow

whats the point of remaking the game a third time with just the same old graphics I already got this game on my PSP in English

  • yea u am going to love this game when it come out

  • MrRobbyM

I’m going to try to convince myself that this dosen’t exist so I don’t even TRY to hope for it to ever make it stateside. I’ve given up Bamco, just kill me now. Damn bastards.

  • thebanditking

Wow after watching the trailer the first thing on my mind was “this is never getting localized”. The best I can hope for is an english European release so I can import it (like Tales of Eternia and Breath of Fire 3). Bamco I really, really despise you.

    • malek86

I’m pretty sure this isn’t happening either. Both of those games were released more than 4 years ago, and we haven’t got anything else after that. That should tell you something about their sales.
