This Week In Sales: Metroids, Monster Hunters And Samurai

With Metroid: Other M and Bleach: Heat the Soul 7 being the only two significant new releases in the Japanese market, the week of August 30th – September 5th was a relatively slow one.

Metroid:

Other M, promoted as a modern-day Famicom game in Japan, debuted at the #3 position on the sales chart, moving 45,398 units in its first week. Interestingly, the game hasn’t fared much better than Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, a first-person perspective Metroid title, which debuted with 32,388 units.

At #5 was Bleach on the PSP, debuting at 25,374 units, and below it at #9 was a bargain edition of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for the PlayStation 3 at 9,162 units.

Monsters and Samurai:

Outside of new releases, it looks to have been a Capcom-heavy week, with Monster Hunter Diary remaining at the #1 spot for a second week in a row, while Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G continues to sell consistently. In fact, the latter game sold a few hundred copies more than it did during the week prior. Perhaps the release date announcement for Portable 3rd is generating additional excitement?

Most curious, however, were the increased sales of Sengoku Basara 3 on the Wii, which hasn’t even had a presence in the top twenty in recent weeks. Basara 3 on Wii rebounded from the 40s to #14 last week with sales of 7,342 units, bringing the Wii version’s total sales a little closer to a round 100,000.

The top-20 for the week of Aug 30th – Sep 5th is as follows:

That number for 2nd G looks a little low. That’s not the lifetime sales, is it? I’m guessing it’s just for this year.

It’s lifetime sales… for the budget edition.

The game should be around 3 millions and half, IIRC.

Guess i’ll take back what I said before about NIS and hitting 50k, seems about the norm outside of a highly anticipated game. Though I believe Metroid to me more popular in the West than it is in the East…

The EU numbers are definitely not good (apparently it did well worse than MP3). We’ll have to see about the american numbers, but overall, it looks like the game is off to a much slower start than MP3.

Bu perhaps it will sell more in the long run.

Bleach heat the soul 7 sucked soo bad that I gave it 0/10.

And sorry Metroid:Other M,but in japan, cuteness defeats all.

Great to see the MH cats selling up a storm; though for shame Japan buying junk like Wii Party over Metroid. This is the biggest problem Nintendo needs to overcome, their real games are also starting to under perform on Wii just as the 3rd parties are experiencing. Truly troubling.
